Noon Against Putin
The “Noon Against Putin” Initiative in Cyprus on March 17, 2024
On March 15-17, 2024 the "so-called" presidential elections in Russia took place. We categorically reject the legitimacy of this voting process orchestrated by the Russian authorities from March 15th to 17th. We call these procedures "elections" only by force of habit and for convenience.
Putin voluntarily selects competitors for this "elections" by himself, figures unknown to the public and as repulsive as possible - to seem like the only real candidate for Russians. All notable public figures such as Ekaterina Duntsova and Boris Nadezhdin were unjustly prevented from participating, reflecting the regime’s fear of authentic democratic processes. The major Putin's opponent, the opposition leader Alexey Navalny, was excluded from a similar campaign in 2018 for a made-up reason and was eventually murdered in prison on February 16, 2024.
The “Noon Against Putin” movement (https://poldenprotivputina.org/anti-putin-noon/), initiated by Russian politician Maxim Reznik and endorsed by Alexei Navalny among other opposition leaders, reflects our conviction that the current administration’s claim of widespread public support is disputed. These “elections” serve as an opportunity to visibly demonstrate the extent of Russian opposition to the war and the current Putin's criminal regime.
On March 17th, at 12:00 PM, all across Russia and worldwide, advocates of various protest strategies against these illegitimate "elections" convened at polling stations. Whether they are supporters of a boycott, proponents of “invalid ballots,” or those backing an alternative candidate to Putin, we are united in our cause. Abroad, we rally under the white-blue-white flag of the anti-war movement, a symbol of our rejection of aggression and our commitment to human rights.
On March 17, 2024, in Cyprus, Russia, and around the world, thousands of people took part in the “Noon Against Putin” action.
🔥 More than 2,000 people joined the “Noon” in Cyprus (according to our conservative estimates). It was the largest action of Russians on the island. The long lines in Nicosia and Paphos, in Larnaca and Limassol, were formed (see the video).
📊 A separate group of volunteer heroes conducted exit polls from the opening to the very closing of the polling stations. According to their information, the results are currently being counted, and we are waiting for news.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who came. It is important that we have loudly declared to the world that we exist and there are many of us who stand against Putin and putinizm, against war in Ukraine, against corruption and dictatorship.
